Muse Watson was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, U.S., on 20 July 1948. He attended Louisiana Tech for two years before transferring to Berea College in Kentucky, where he made his debut stage performance as Petruchio in a production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. He continued working in outdoor dramas, dinner theatres, and small repertory groups.

In 1989, Watson transitioned to film, and by 2005, he had appeared in 43 feature films, including Sommerby, Assassins, Dead Bird, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Something to Talk About, and Songcatcher. Watson also played the primary antagonist on I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and reprised the role in its sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998).

Watson has several television credits, including eight made-for-television movies: American Gothic, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Cold Case, Matlock, The Lazarus Man, JAG, Walker, Texas Ranger, Criminal Minds, and Prison Break. He also appeared on episodes of Ghost Whisperer alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt and CSI.

Watson has guest-starred in an episode of The Mentalist and Castle. Since 2006, Watson has appeared on NCIS as a recurring cast member playing Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs’s mentor and former superior, Mike Franks.

In 1998, Watson performed with Jennifer Love Hewitt as a special guest on Saturday Night Live, where he parodied his role in I Know What You Did Last Summer. He joined the Shorris Film production company with Clint Morris and Christopher Showerman, making their first film, the Western Between the Sand and the Sky. In 2010, he played Sam in A Christmas Snow.

Watson has taken an active role in educating people about autism since his daughter has the condition. He is an honorary chairman at Stars for Autism, a nonprofit organization in Battlefield, Missouri. He even features in the organization’s video promotion.
