Helga Bejach’s Family, Net Worth, and Career.

Helga Bejach

Helga Bejach is the adoptive sister of David Attenborough, an English broadcaster, author, natural historian, and biologist. The Attenborough family took in her and her sister Irene Bejach on the eve of the second world war in 1939. Helga’s siblings, besides David, were Richard Attenborough, a renowned English actor, and John Attenborough.

Fredrick Attenborough was a principal at University College Leicester. He stayed with his family, his wife, and three kids at the college house when he took in Helga and her sister. Helga and her sister stayed at the University for seven years, leaving in 1946 to reunite with their family.

Helga’s biological mother died when she was three, so they were only left with their father, Dr. Curt Bejach, head of public health for a district in Berlin. When the war started, Helga Bejach’s father was taken by the Nazis, who deported him to Auschwitz, where he was killed in 1944. When Helga and her sister fled Germany, they left an older sister named Jutta.

Her Brother

Helga’s adoptive brother, David, went through school and a degree in natural sciences from Clara College, Cambridge. He served in the Royal Navy for two years, then left and joined a publishing company where he edited science textbooks. Later, David applied for a radio talk producer job at the BBC but was refused; after Mary Adams saw his CV, she offered him a three-month training course with the BBC.

After working with the BBC for some time as a trainee, he joined the company full-time in 1952 as a producer for the Talks department. His projects as a producer included Song Hunter, a folk music series, and the quiz show Animal, Vegetable, Mineral?

Since Helga’s brother is also a natural historian and biologist, he started producing natural history-related programs, one of which was Animal Patterns, a three-part series. Through his collaboration with Jack Lester, David produced the Zoo Quest series about an animal collecting expedition.

David worked in different levels of administration at BBC, and throughout his career, he has achieved many great things; in 2022, he was recognized as a Champion of the Earth by the United Nations Environment Programme for his resilience in preserving and protecting the environment.

Helga’s brother has received numerous awards throughout his life; by 2013, he had collected over 30 honorary degrees. He has also been featured as the subject of several BBC television programs. David has also done several documentary films, including David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet, which he narrated in 2020.

Life After Leaving the Attenborough

Helga and Irene Bejach left the Attenborough family after staying with them for seven years. Though their uncle took them, details surrounding their life afterward have been kept private. Helga got married and had children; in an interview, David said that he talks to Helga’s children. It is unclear how many they are and if they are all still alive.

Death

Helga Bejach died as a result of old age in 2005. Her family has not revealed details of her burial place. She left behind children and grandchildren.
