Lisa was the firstborn among three children and grew up with her younger sister and brother. According to Lisa Lopes, her father was very strict and treated the family like they were in boot camp.
While Lisa Lopes was in school, her parents divorced, which led to her being raised by her paternal grandmother in the late days of her childhood. When Lisa was five years old, she started playing with a toy keyboard and forming her songs.

Lopes had experienced challenges growing up, and she never lied about it. She indicated how she came from an abusive, alcoholic background, and she struggled with alcoholism herself. Lisa formed the headlines in 1994 when she was arrested for setting fire to her boyfriend’s shoes, which led to the burning down of a house they were living in.
Lisa Lopes indicated that Andre Rison had bitten her after a night out, and she fired the shoes to revenge on him. Lopes revealed how she lacked freedom in the relationship and how Rison abused her emotionally and physically. Lopes released her frustrations about the relationship on the night of the fire.
The fire incident resulted in Lopes being sentenced to five years of probation and therapy. She was unable to deal with the issue, which tainted her career. She revealed that her therapy sessions made her meet a struggling mother in rehab making an impression on her.

Death of Lisa Lopes
Lisa Lopes died on April 25, 2005, while driving a rented Mitsubishi Montero SUV. Lisa avoided a truck and an oncoming car when she rolled several times after hitting two trees. Lopes and three others were thrown out of the window, and Lopes died instantly due to fatal injuries. Eight people survived the accident, and she was the only one with severe injuries.
Lopes died at thirty years, and her funeral was held at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where thousands of mourners attended.
