Practical and simple tips for using hair dryers

Using a hair dryer is not just about pointing it at your hair and waiting for it to work. The correct technique, the science behind handling, and the way it is used are essential tools for achieving an effective and high-quality blow dry. Behind every action, there is a reason, a scientifically tested method, and a direct impact on the final result. In this article, we will show small preparation and usage habits that can make a real difference when using a hair dryer, whether you are a man or a woman.

Preparation: not optional, but essential

Preparing your hair is almost as important as using the hair dryer itself and some hair styling products. First, remove excess water from your hair. Microfiber towels are the best option, as they absorb moisture efficiently while leaving the ideal level of dampness for the dryer to work evenly.

After washing, hair distribution should be done using a comb or a brush, never with your fingers. Using fingers to separate hair is not only ineffective from a technical standpoint, but it can also cause issues later in the drying process. Ideally, use wide tooth combs instead.

Hair sectioning is also essential. Divide the hair into four simple sections: two at the front and two at the back. Working in sections prevents drying only the surface while leaving the inside damp, and allows for greater control over what has already been done.

Before even turning on the dryer, these are steps most people should follow, but only a few do consistently. With proper preparation, the next step becomes significantly easier.

High quality hair drying explained

The hair dryer should be kept approximately 15 cm away from the head, moving the airflow in an S shape. Using it like a controlled zig zag prevents focusing heat on a single area and reduces the risk of overheating, which can cause damage.

Drying should always be done with the airflow directed downward. Using it from roots to ends make the air flowing in the same direction. The hair cuticles enhances shine, which becomes increasingly noticeable as the technique improves.

Finally, and just as important, finish with a cool air blast over the entire hair. The cool air seals the cuticles and reduces frizz, creating a final and lasting finish to the drying process.

The right accessories and their importance

Good accessories are almost as important as a good hair dryer. The concentrator nozzle, for example, is not just a decorative attachment. It directs airflow precisely, reduces dispersion, and allows the hair dryer to work more efficiently when drying and shaping the hair.

The diffuser, available on higher quality hair dryers, is ideal for curly or fine hair, as it distributes heat evenly and helps prevent excessive volume or overheated areas.

Finally, although not an accessory, the environment also matters. Drying hair in a bathroom filled with steam can undo part of the work. Ideally, hair should be dried in a dry, well ventilated space to prevent moisture from re entering the hair fiber.
